SJRCC gives law enforcement agencies safety tour

As the summer term winds down and administrators and staff begin to prepare for the new semester, the SJRCC Office of Safety and Security is also preparing for the return of faculty and thousands of students for the fall term.

Director of Campus Safety David Stout along with Lieutenant Tommy Mullins recently provided a tour of the Palatka Campus for members of the local law enforcement SWAT and special entry teams. The agencies that participated in the tour exchanged ideas, learned campus logistics and building locations, and improved communication efforts in the event of an emergency.

Stout said the Palatka Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and Putnam County Emergency Management will be the responding local agencies in the event of an incident on the Palatka Campus. "It is vital that we share information relating to our campus and operations to ensure a smooth, coordinated response should the need arise," Stout said. "We are very fortunate to have an excellent working relationship with all of these agencies."

Participating agencies included the Putnam County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and its commander Richard Harrell, Putnam County Emergency Management representative Quinn Romay, the Palatka Police Department's special entry team and Police Chief Gary Getchell.

Similar tours were also conducted on the St. Augustine and Orange Park campuses.

Mullins said the College actively seeks the latest resources in order to ensure the safety of its students, employees and visitors.
