SJRCC Press Release
October 2009
Nolan Verbally commits to Florida State
St. Johns River Community College left-handed pitcher Connor Nolan has verbally committed to play baseball for Florida State University. A native of Salem, New Hampshire, Nolan will sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent with the Seminoles on November 11.
The highly-regarded Seminole baseball program has been a model of consistency in college baseball. A member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, FSU has had more wins in the past 30 years than any other program in the NCAA. Nolan made his official visit to the FSU campus the weekend of October 10 and will enroll at FSU in August, 2010.
Nolan will play for legendary Head Coach Mike Martin, who will begin his 31st season at the helm of the Florida State baseball program in 2010. Martin’s 1,583 wins rank him fourth on the all-time wins list in college baseball history. The Seminoles have appeared in the NCAA Tournament every year and have made 13 trips to the College World Series under Martin.
SJRCC Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director Ross Jones said, “We are so proud of Connor! He has put himself in a position to be highly successful because of his character and work ethic and is a perfect example of what we at SJRCC look for and expect in our student-athletes.”
Nolan said that FSU is the perfect place to continue his baseball career and complete his college education. “This is great opportunity for me,” said Nolan. “The strength of Florida State’s baseball program and their academic reputation was the deciding factor. I had a great visit to Tallahassee, and I really felt at home with the coaching staff.”
Nolan thanked Jones for his support. “Coach Jones guided me all the way through the recruiting process, which made it so easy for me,” he said. “I’ve learned so much from him, and he has really helped me to develop as a pitcher,” he added.
The SJRCC baseball team opens its 2010 season at home on Friday, January 29 against Miami-Dade College.
