SJRCC law enforcement, corrections cadets recognized

St. Johns River Community College criminal justice academy cadets were recently recognized during a graduation ceremony. Cadets representing Clay, Duval, Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia counties received their certificates of completion for the law enforcement basic recruit and corrections basic recruit programs.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and St. Augustine Police Department opened the ceremony with the "presentation of the colors" followed by the cadets reciting the code of ethics. Guest speaker St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar addressed the cadets and gave advice on how to succeed in public service. "Respect your use of power," Shoar said. "Treat every citizen like you would want your mother or father to be treated."

Special recognition in the basic law enforcement class went to Jacob Morris for "The Medallion Award," Eric Yarborough for "Highest Academic Achiever" and James Murphy for "Most Proficient in Firearms."

Special recognition in the corrections class went to Benjamin West for "The Medallion Award," Mark Snyder for "Highest Academic Achiever," and Brandon Ulrich for "Most Proficient in Firearms."

Law enforcement basic recruit graduates are: Marvin C. Antoine, Cory J. Carter, Andrew C. Castonguay, Jeffrey L. Collins, Jesse E. Comer, Jeremy M. Davis, Thomas A. Dunlap, Shane G. Engelman, Brandon A. Foster, Luis H. Garces, Jarrod M. Greene, Joshua E. Gwynes, Kevin L. Hallenbeck, Cory S. Harp, Alisha M. Hunt, William T. Lawhun, Diamond A. Lewis, Michal F. MacDonald, Christopher A. Mobley, Jacob B. Morris, James F. Murphy Jr., James A. Ottomeyer, Nelson Pacheco Jr., Andrew J. Reed, Calvin D. Scott, Daniel B. Suber, Bryan K. Sumerlin, David K. Thornton, Sandra X. White, Douglas S. Woodall and Eric L. Yarborough.

Correction graduates are: Sherita L. Blaylock, Christopher L. Bostian, Glynda Brooker, Paul S. Cherry, Bryan S. Kessler, Patrick M. Kirk, Alexei V. Lizanich, Armando M. Lopez, Maureen F. McCabe, Willimae L. McDaniels, Howard A. Schwartz, Mark Robert Snyder, Forrest A. Taylor, Brandon K. Ulrich, Duane L. Venable, Emily K. Victor, Benjamin J. West, Shawn L. Wimberly and Erik M. Zargo.

Ashley L. Cheshire earned certificates in both the law enforcement and corrections programs.

The ceremony was held at the Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts. The THCA is owned and operated by SJRCC and is located on the Orange Park Campus.

The criminal justice certificate programs provide job-related training to prepare cadets for entry-level employment in their career field. Cadets who complete the certificate program will be eligible to take the state certification exam. The certificates also provide credit hours to be transferred into SJRCC's associate in science degree in criminal justice officer administration. The program is located on the St. Augustine Campus.
