Dr. Philip Benjamin Matching Program for Community Colleges
St. Johns River Community College participates in the Dr. Philip Benjamin Matching Program for Community Colleges. This program is a single matching gifts program that encompasses the goals originally set out in the Academic Improvement Program, the Scholarship Matching Program and the Health Care Education Quality Enhancement Challenge Grant.
The program is administered according to the rules of the State Board of Education and is used to encourage private support in enhancing community colleges by providing the community college system with the opportunity to receive and match scholarship and development funds.
The Way Matching Works:
- Scholarship Funds are matched by the state dollar for dollar.
- Developmental Funds are matched by the state 2 for 3.
- Funds are submitted to the state of Florida for match by February 1 of each year. The match is based on funds from the previous 12 months (February 2 through February 1). Once the request has been made to the state for our matching funds, checks will begin to arrive at SJRCC by September of that same year. The match amount will arrive in four checks. For example, if your organization's scholarship account is set to receive $1,000, you would receive your checks in September for $250, October for $250, November for $250 and December for $250.
See below for more details:
- February 2, 2007-February 1, 2008: all funds deposited through the SJRCC Foundation are eligible for match
- February 1, 2008: match is submitted to the state
- September 2008: First match check arrives
- October 2008: Second match check arrives
- November 2008: Third match check arrives
- December 2008: Fourth match check arrives
- February 1, 2009: match is submitted to the state
