Rules and Rewrite (R&R)

R&R is designed to assist students in identifying the most common grammar errors they make in writing.  By requiring students to look up the misused grammar rule and then to apply the rule correctly, R&R  provides them with legitimate, useful grammar practice.

R&R works as follows:  Each grammar error (punctuation and spelling included) will be marked on the paper.  The student must

1.         locate the applicable rule in Bedford

2.         Write out the complete rule, and

3.         rewrite the complete sentence correcting the error.

Guidelines:

1.         R&R must be done on a sheet of paper separate from the essay paper.  Write on only one side of each sheet, number items, and double space between items.

2.         R&R may be hand written.  Penmanship must be legible.

3.         Each item must be corrected separately.  However, if you have 3 errors in one sentence, you may write the three rules and correct all the sentence errors once.

4.         R&R is mandatory for all students and will count as 10% of the final grade.  Students absent on a day when R&R is scheduled will receive a zero for the assignment; however, one R&R grade will be dropped at the end of the semester.
