ENC 1101 Fall 2007 Tentative Calendar

You are responsible for reading each module for the specific assignments in each one. This calendar is available to help you arrange a study schedule and keep track of important dates. I recommend that you put the due dates from this calendar, from the Drop Box, and from the Quiz page on your own personal calendar so you can plan a schedule for yourself.

All dates in the class are final and non-negotiable. If you miss a deadline, for any reason, you will receive a 0 on that assignment. This policy applies to all assignments, including exams. Excuses such as “My computer crashed,” and “the server was down,” are the modern versions of “The dog ate my homework.”

Before you begin, I suggest you

• Familiarize yourself with the class.
• Print out this calendar, the quiz page, the dropbox page, and the Modules so you have the information in case the server is down.
• Visit the Homepage of the course and note my office hours.
• Read the Survival Tips and the Top 10 Practices for practical advice related to the course.

Week	Module	Assignments Check the assigned Module each week to see what day of the week assignments in that Module are due.
1/2-1/5	1 & 2	1. Read Chapter 8 in The Longman Writer, paying special attention to language use topics (appropriate diction, specific words, strong verbs, original figures of speech, and avoiding sexist language) 2. Submit Journal 1 3. Submit the required signature page to the Drop Box. Failure to return this sheet to me will result in your being dropped from the course. 4. Take the Personal Information Practice Quiz 5. Begin Work on Essay Assignment #1:  Examples Essay.  a. Optional: submit the Examples Essay Extra Credit prewrite sheet to the Drop Box b. Optional: complete the Extra Credit Diagnostic Pre-test 6. Begin studying for Grammar Quiz 1. Details about the quiz and an extra credit assignment are available under the links on the Course Menu and in Module 1.
1/8-1/12	3	1. Submit Journal 2 2. Continue to work on the Examples Essay. a. If you are participating in the Extra Credit editing, your Examples Essay rough draft must be posted to the editing area on the Discussion Board; you must then edit the essay you were assigned and re-post it to the editing area. b. Check the Module for specific deadlines.
1/15-1/19	4	1. Essay Assignment #1: The Examples Essay is due a. Check the Drop Box for the specific time frame in which the assignment must be submitted—late work will not be accepted. b. If you chose to participate, the Extra Credit processing sheet is due 2. Submit Journal 3
1/22-1/26	5	1. Submit Journal 4 2. Begin Work on Essay Assignment #2: Comparison or Contrast Essay. a. If you choose to participate, submit the Comparison or Contrast Essay Extra Credit prewrite sheet to the Drop Box
1/29-2/2	No Module	Grammar Quiz 1—check the Quiz link for exact availability. The exam will not be offered early, nor can it be made up.
2/5-2/9	6	1. The R&R for the Examples essay is due-- Check the Drop Box for the specific time frame in which the assignment must be submitted—late work will not be accepted. 2. Submit Journal 5 & respond to 2 of your classmates' Journal 5 postings 3. Continue work on Essay Assignment #2:  The Comparison or Contrast essay. a. If you are participating in the Extra Credit editing, your Comparison or Contrast Essay rough draft must be posted to the editing area on the Discussion Board; then you must edit the essay you were assigned and repost it. b. Check the Module for specific deadlines

3/12-3/16	No Module	Grammar Quiz 2—check the Quiz link for exact availability The exam will not be offered early, nor can it be made up. 3/16 is the last day to withdraw from classes.
3/19-3/23	no module	Enjoy Spring Break!
3/26-3/30	11	1. Submit Journal 8 2. Begin Work on Essay Assignment #4: The Narrative Essay. a. If you choose to participate, submit the Narrative Essay Extra Credit prewrite sheet.
4/2-4/6	12	1. The R&R for the Process essay is due-- Check the Drop Box for the specific time frame in which the assignment must be submitted—late work will not be accepted. 2. Continue work on Essay Assignment #4: The Narrative essay. a. If you are participating in the Extra Credit editing, your Narrative Essay rough draft must be posted to the editing area on the Discussion Board; then you must edit the essay you were assigned and repost it b. 4/23-4/24	no module	Semester ends the course will be reset at this time.
