Week Two:     Labor Day; Go over pp.2-9; Continue Haiku; Student sharing; Ch 6; Elements of poetry handout; Introduce Parody p. 394.

 

Week Three:    Parody samples; Assign Parody; Student Sharing; Introduce Octiva Rima.

 

Week Four:     Student Octiva Rima due; Film; Introduce Sonnet; Samples.

 

Week Five:      Sonnets due; Free Verse Samples; Introduce Short Fiction; Ch.9, pp. 174-182; pp.; Characterization

 

Week Six:        One page narrative; Go over Ch.10, Narrative and its problems; Read and discuss Short Fiction by selected authors.

 

Week Seven:   More stories; Showing vs. telling; Narrative due; Student sharing.

 

Week Eight:     Objective point of view; Samples; “Hills Like White Elephants” a study; Juggling.

 

Week Nine:     Objective story due; Student sharing; There’s a bear at the door; Preparing your manuscript for publication Ch.16.

Week Eleven:  Chapter 11 “Creative Nonfiction” pp.236-244; Memoirs/family stories Ch.12; Cante fable in class.

 

Week Twelve: Holiday Veteran’s Day; Nonfiction piece due; Field trip?  Reaction/response.

 

Week Thirteen: Drama; One act play, Thirst by Eugene O’Neill

Week Fifteen: Check Writer’s journal; Conference on One act play assignment.
